卫星跟踪的斑尾塍鹬从澳洲出发了

9只新环的斑尾塍鹬从新西兰、16只从澳大利亚的Broome将很快到达中国....有2只已经出发~！

There are 9 new godwits with satellite transmitters from NZ this year and 16 from Broome that will be heading to China soon, in fact 2 are already on their way.

已往資料顯示大部份遇過境涉禽在中國沿海只停一點，今次的數據也一樣。這幾天香港也有數十隻班尾濱鷸，但畢竟只是整個族群的少數。

Two of the satellite tagged Bar-tailed Godwit from Broome have begun their journey north and are have gone some 1400km in their first 24 hours.

You will also be excited to know that Clive has just had an email from Chung Yu in Taiwan with a photograph of King Island Ruddy Turnstone which he saw on Saturday. This bird was banded as a 2+ male at Whistler Point (South) on 9/03/08 when it weighed 139g & had 25% breeding plumage. From the photograph it now appears to be in 100% bp!

This is I think our earliest ever report of a northward migrating Ruddy Turnstone from outside Australia.

That first of our recent visit to King Island certainly has been a bonanza for results - this was the catch that we had a birds with Japanese & Taiwanese bands.

Lets hope there are more to come,

April 7, 2008 - World's oldest Bar-tailed Godwit

A Bar-tailed Godwit caught at Broome, north Western Australia, in November 2007 caused some excitement for the banding team when one of the birds had an old metal band on its leg which, when banding records were consulted, turned out to be more the 27 years old. The bird was first banded on the very first expedition to Broome by the Australasian Wader Studies Group in September 1981. This is six years older than any previous record for this species.

去年在Broome抓到一只最小27岁的斑尾啊。哗，比我们年纪都大，还要每年这样的飞两遍......

真不容易呢，怀疑它没来过大陆几次，都是去南韩停歇。。。

精彩啊，不知道黑腹有没有一半寿命。。。

D8 landed near the Kuskokwim River mouth in western Alaska early this morning (local time). He now appears to be headed towards the Yukon Delta where many godwits nest.
